Kanye West ‘Power’ video: brings Rapper painting to life in highly-anticipated comeback music video
Aug 6th
In a Michael Jackson-esque move, Kanye West turned the debut of his “Power” music video into a bona fide TV event. In addition to a high-profile “Jersey Shore” episode lead-in to ensure maximum viewership, the video was interrupted with mini-commercials roughly every fifteen seconds on MTV.
Over the past few days, West teased the video, off his still-untitled new album, with the catchphrase, “It’s not a video, it’s a painting” (sounds like an action-movie tagline) and referred to it on his Twitter account as “The Portrait of Power” (sounds like a self-help book).
It seemed as if West, speaking in his usual self-centric riddles, was plugging his video as a work of art and trying to make it into something more than it was. And he wasn’t kidding this time.
The one-take “Power” video starts with a stylized shot of a dark-clad West with glowing eyes, surrounded by pillars and wearing a 15-pound Horus piece around his neck. The camera pulls back to reveal the rapper on a living canvas, surrounded by mythological chaos: angels and nymphs cavort around him, levitating servants pour water upside-down onto their faces, two sword-swinging goons come flying at each other in slow-mo, and a giant sword threads through a halo above West’s head.
Marco Brambilla, who directed the video, recently told Vulture that the theme of “Power” was a fall from grace; a visual metaphor for his high-profile plummet last year after stealing the mic from Taylor Swift at the VMAs.
“It visualizes power, and him as the icon as power,” said the director, who West hand-picked after seeing his “Civilization” installation at the Standard Hotel. “At the end of the piece it challenges the power that I set up at the beginning. It’s an elliptical piece of storytelling.”
The focus of the video turns out to be West’s death. After a few close-up shots of the rapper’s surroundings, Brambilla’s camera pulls back and everyone disappears, leaving only West and the two warriors. Realization dawns that they aren’t swinging at each other, but rather converging on King Kanye. But before they can decapitate him, however, the video cuts to black.
Interestingly, the video only encompasses about a third of the five-minute track, and you can’t help but wonder what he’d have come up with for a clip of whole thing.
Brambelli wasn’t at all surprised that West’s first video post-Taylorgate portrayed the rapper as nothing less than a king; it’s his style to come back strong, albeit painfully self-aware.
“It’s the anti–Tiger Woods moment, you know?” Brambelli told Vulture, referring to the golfer’s incredibly low-key comeback following a sex scandal. “I think it’s a very honest piece. It’s definitely larger-than-life and it’s definitely a strong kind of statement … he’s brash, and uncensored, but [the video] has a self-awareness.”

Usher Speaks On His Relationship With Chilli And Tameka
Jul 22nd

*Usher recently talked about his past relationship with Chili on VH1’s “Behind the Music.” He said he found in Tameka what Chili didn’t want – marriage and a family.
“What I expected and wanted from her wasn’t what she could give me at the time,” Usher confirmed. “I actually talked about marriage and it didn’t work.”
While the two were together, it seemed that the TLC singer was not ready for a life of commitment. However, she recently divorced the father of her son, Dallas Austin. Seems like Chili’s last husband wasn’t ready when she wanted the family and kids.
“We just had differences and unfortunately because of baggage that we all carry it just didn’t work out,” said Usher. “It was a relationship that just happened before its time.”
Chili said that her life would be different if she and Usher met later in life. Perhaps they would be making love songs together.
As far as his relationship with Tameka, it started out good, but ended up falling apart.
“We started out working together. We built a bond that was very healthy,” says Usher. “I felt that she not only understood my world but understood how to be in it.”
Tameka and Usher are now divorced. Perhaps this leaves room for rekindling an old flame?
Magic Johnson speaks on Lebron and Miami Heat
Jul 22nd

*Lebron’s “decision” will never be forgotten, and the nation’s basketball fans won’t let him live it down.
Bball legend, Magic Johnson shared his thoughts about the newly adopted Miami Heat player. He told Bloomberg News that he would never team up with Larry Bird to win a championship.
“We didn’t think about it cause that’s not what we were about,” said Johnson. “From college, I was trying to figure out how to beat Larry Bird.”
Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley consented with his remarks.
“There’s no way, with hindsight, I would’ve ever called up Larry [Bird], called up Magic [Johnson] and said, ‘Hey, look, let’s get together and play on one team,’” Jordan said. Barkley commented on LeBron, saying he was “disturbed” because he believes James’ decision had been “planned all along
Gotti Family Upset With Rick Ross
Jul 22nd

*Rick Ross is already knee deep in legal trouble over jacking the name of real gangster “Freeway” Ricky Ross. Now the rapper has gone and riled up the son of John Gotti after his father’s famous nickname ended up the title of Rick’s new album, “Teflon Don.”
The moniker was first used by New York newspapers to describe John Gotti, the former head of New York’s Gambino crime family who won multiple acquittals in the 1980s and 1990s.
“My grandfather paid his dues for that nickname. That was my grandfather’s life,” said Carmine Agnello, who is attempting to launch a rap career under the name Carmine Gotti.

“He should have asked for permission. A standup, respectable guy would come and ask ‘If I could use the nickname,’” said Agnello, 24. “I think he’s a great artist, but you can’t just start calling yourself that to sell records …He wants to go for that whole image, but hey, be yourself.”
Ross, born William Leonard Roberts, took on the rap name “Rick Ross,” presumably after Los Angeles cocaine kingpin “Freeway” Ricky Ross. The latter is now suing the rapper over the use of his name and image.
Last week, a judge denied Freeway’s request to block the release of “Teflon Don.”

“Gucci Mane Addresses Public – “Hip Hop Needs Substance”
May 12th

| Gucci Mane Released From Jail; Makes Official Statement |
| Southern rapper Gucci Mane was released from Fulton County, Georgia jail last night (May 11) at midnight, and without missing a step, he read a statement to the small crowd that had assembled outside the jailhouse. Taking responsibility for his actions, Gucci revealed that his six month term allowed him time to think, and he hopes to move forward as a role model for youth. “These past six months have been a difficult time but fortunately I have learned a great deal from my experience,” he said. “I was able to do a great deal of soul searching; I am coming back with a new attitude towards life.” Gucci also admitted that the jail sentence, which came right around the period of his major label debut album, The State vs. Radric Davis, was ill-timed and ultimately effected what should have been the highlight of his career thus far.
“Unfortunately, my incarceration also came at a pivotal point in my career, just as my first major label album was dropping,” he stated. “I was forced to miss what should have been one of the proudest moments of my life. This is something I will make sure never happens again. My time in jail was trying, but I grew from it and I am now a stronger and better person. I want to continue on a positive track and truly focus on being a role model to my fans and community.”
Gucci went to on talk about his new record label, 1017 Brick Squad Records, which is being distributed through Asylum/Warner Bros Records, and confirmed that he is working with a new team of people.
Now that he is free he will turn his attention to his forthcoming album, The State vs. Radric Davis: The Appeal, which will be another mark in his journey to become the top rapper in Hip-Hop.
“The rap game is in need of substance right now…I’m ready to compete, so my the competition begin. I set out five years ago to be the #1 rapper in Hip-Hop. Today that journey continues with an even sharper focus. I challenge all artists to put out the best music they ever made this summer. I will accept nothing less than victory, but I still want worthy opponents,” he proclaimed.
